TACO THE TOWN - Tasting Tasty Tacos from TACO NACO KC (excerpt)

Taco The Town Podcast

Let's put these tacos to the test. The place we're reviewing today is Taco Naco KC, they are set up at the Overland Park Farmer's Market on Saturdays, and they won the best taco at the Kansas City Taco Fest a couple of summers ago. And I just wanted to have them on the show because these are some amazing tacos. So we have them already. We also have a ton of salsas and guacamole from from Taco NACO. So we can start bringing these out if you want to do it.

Now that the tacos we have are the carne asada steak, the mushroom mole and the barbacoa tacos. OK, now which one does everyone want to try first?

Are they in the same order on everybody's thing? You start on one side and progress. Yeah. Yeah. What is that one. The mushroom. Far left mushroom.

Is that the mushroom one. The Mole. Yes, I believe so. So we try it now.

Let's try it. Do it. Should we choose our tacos. Should we.

Yeah. Let's give this Mole a try.

Um, I actually didn't think I liked Mole. That's hilarious. But that's really good. There's so much flavor packed into one tiny taco. I don't even know what salsa I would add to make it better. Like it's so good that sauces great. Mm.

Yeah. I don't know if I've ever had a taco like this but either it's very unique.

It's very good. What do you think of the tortilla. I like the tortilla. I think it's good. I think it's good. I also don't love when like a tortilla kind of overwhelms my taco, you know, like I like to have the flavor of what's inside of it.

So I think this is a really good like tortilla can.

Yeah, exactly.

And there's so much sauce in this taco, but the tortilla isn't falling apart. Yeah, yeah. That's true because like are automatically like eight stars worth eight.

Right. It's holding together very well. Am I getting a hint of like chocolate. Yeah.

Before we go on and eat some more tacos, what do you think of the chips and salsa so far.

Oh my gosh. So good. Yes, the well I can't actually even say which one's my favorite because they're also good. I just haven't tried the Roasted Fuego one because it says very hot and I'm intimidated.

I did try that and I think that's why my nose has been running this whole time. It is really good, though. It's got a great flavor. It just will kick you in the mouth. The Peanut Macha is really delicious. I was really surprised by how much flavor it had it in the Tomatillo Jalapeno one. So good.

I need to have some of that peanut one. I mean, it's good. Yeah, I think my favorites are the what's they called Peanut Macha and then the creamy jalapeno and this guac. I've never seen a guac with pomegranate on top, but it's good I think. Yeah, we're like eating it with a spoon because it's so interesting. I love the added little texture.

I think basically what we're communicating is like the flavor combos that they have are so unique and so interesting on your palate that it definitely makes it a completely different experience than anything I've actually had.

Yeah, I've never seen guac with a... That one's hot and that's just hot. So think about the very hot my nose to start running.

My nose has been dripping this whole time. I'm like trying to keep it from running. OK, should we do the next taco? Yeah. Which one is this one in the middle. Is it the Carne Asada.

Yes. Yes it is. OK, let's count another one of these amazing these amazing shells. Yeah. Tortillas.

So they tricked us. There is cheese. It's like melted to the bottom there.

It's like melted to the shell. It's so there if they tricked us so good. Yeah. That was like a really solid the thing and then it's not like falling off your taco.

That's such a good idea. That tastes like, like a summer grill out to me. But like in Taco form. Totally. Yeah I agree with that. So definitely this one.

I kind of like this one better than the Mole one, but this one is very traditional.

Doesn't have a little guac in there? I think so. Oh man. This is good.

Yeah. That's really good. Much more traditional. Like you said, the mole one was definitely a surprise. But my heart is so happy right now. You go.

I could eat maybe four more of these Carne Asada ones.

I mean, yeah, usually I'm enjoying this might be my favorite podcast that we've ever been. I'm yeah.

I'm like I thought you kind of weirded out by eating while on a podcast, but no, not at all on their tacos.

It's easier than you think. All right. Should we try this last Taco Bell? Let's do it. Definitely. This is the Barbacoa.

Are you guys fans of Barbacoa Tacos? Love. And its meat. I like meat. Just crossed her eyes. It's so good.

That's phenomenal.

That is an eye crossingly good taco. Oh, good. Yeah. That's so good. That cream sauce. Holy cow. There's so much flavor. There's so much flavor. And the meat alone.

There's so much flavor. Yeah, I, I, I don't have anything to say is I'm just gonna eat it. What is that sauce? Said BRB. She's not going to be talking for a while. Yeah, I don't know. But this cream sauce is phenomenal. So good. I got a hint of pink is caramelized onions. Somebody already said that. So bright. It is very colorful. Like the pink onions. The this the orange is coming out.

I don't even know it's so good. Yeah.

These are all phenomenal. Honestly I don't actually think I have a favorite. I know you said the carne asada might be. Did that one take the cake?

Did that one thing. That one take one for me. That one took the taco, taco home. Wow.

I don't know that I can decide. They're all so good and they're all so different. Like they're also vastly different that it's really hard for me to pick. Do you have a favorite. I think the the last one. The barbacoa. Yeah, I think the barbacoa. But this is the way to do it is get one of each for sure. And they like really put like a good amount in them. It's not like. Oh yeah. They're so little shred of meat.

No. Yeah.

It's not like one of those street tacos, it doesn't have much in it. This is packed but it's not so packed that it's falling apart and it's and the tortilla is breaking.

Yeah. Honestly these tortillas are bombs. OK, are we ready to give a final rating. Oh my gosh. Just like one through ten.

One out of five. I'm gonna need to like try that like OK, I've pulled in. Five being best. What would you give the tacos from Taco Naco KC.

As a whole? Oh yeah. Oh you can go by Taco if you want to. Let's go as a whole because I think the individual ratings are a little too hard for me because then I have to pick a favorite. Overall, are we going on a ten to ten scale. Five. Oh OK. My five golden tacos. Tacos five. OK, I mean I feel like I'm out of five. I'm going to be a five to nine out of these are if I could add a bonus point, I absolutely would.

These are really good. They're just so unique. They are, they're like and I was second guessing myself because I'm like, really would you rate any taco less than five? It's a taco. But no, if we're really thinking about it, these are some good tacos, like I've had some that I probably would rate less than half. Yeah. And now forever knowing that these a five like this is a different standard. So anything else would be really hard to match.

Just imagine what the other tacos on the menu tastes like.

Oh, we weren't trying tonight. Right. Are these like they're top three maybe. I don't know. I'm not sure why they chose. I'm going to go four point eight out of five.

Have you ever had a five star? Because

I have not. OK, OK. I've had a four point nine I believe, but I don't remember. I eat so many tacos.

I wonder if you had them next to each other side by side.

I would still say that, you know, that's that might be the final episode final.

Now, every taco you've ever tried all at once, I mean, this place is great because the chips and salsa to each salsa is its own individual magical world of of tastes, magical world. They are huge. And the guacamole. Yeah, yeah. They don't half ass anything like everything they're trying to make a statement with, like they go all in on the flavors and I love that I do too. And they've got creamy and they've got you know, you're more typical salsa consistency, chunky.

It's just I'm blown away now. You could see yourself going to the farmer's market.

Oh my gosh. I might sleep there the night before I sign. I'm first. Don't yeah. I don't even drive that direction. But I would for these tacos.

So here on the show we usually do a segment called Bad Reviews, read in a funny voice, but there are no bad reviews of Taco Naco KC, I'm not surprised. Would you guys like to read some good reviews you typically see in a funny voice? Oh yeah. All right.

It's bad reviews and Taco The Town. Taco The Town. Taco The Town. Malorie, who do you have there?

Laura B? Laura B says. Laura B have to say, I have had tacos and breakfast enchiladas here at the open market and they are incredible. I have written to each week just to buy the enchilada with egg and chorizo though and the best tortillas. I also love the guacamole and salsa. The owner is an incredible chef and super kind. Absolutely. I highly recommend this place. Five Stars.

Her face was so committed the entire time to see the eye rolls. This is great. If you don't come at the face, then you're not you're not into it. Now I want to try the cherry so. Oh my gosh.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. She said breakfast enchiladas.
