Our #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth celebration has reached the midway point! We are highlighting a Johnson County Latino-owned restaurant each Wednesday. Food is the easiest (and most delicious) way to get to know a culture. This week we highlight an authentic Mexican taco business! Fernanda and her husband opened Taco Naco KC in Spring of 2019 as a pop-up taqueria and nacho stand at local festivals and catering company for weddings, birthdays, graduations, and company events. During the Pandemic of 2020, TNKC quickly adapted to the new environment and began a market component at its pop-up stand offering Taco Kits To-Go and prepackaged salsas, quesos and margarita mixes. Today Taco Naco KC offers those items as well as Mexican soda, aolis, moles, and tacos off-the-grill or to-go.

Fernanda serves as the executive chef and is the director of events and catering, while Brian is the director of marketing and administration. They chose to open their business in Overland Park because of the lack of taco shops in Johnson County, despite there being so many Mexican restaurants in the area. Fernanda aspires to provide the community with “the best tacos in Johnson County” and she believes she is doing just that by “starting with the basics.”

On Saturdays at the Overland Park Farmers Market, you can enjoy their popular menu items: Carne Asada Cilantro taco (photo 1), Brisket Barbacoa taco (photo 2), and the vegan Mole and Mushroom taco! Taco Naco offers gluten free-options and takes pride in the fact that they serve 100% white, GMO-free, stone-ground corn tortillas.
